Why overuse injuries occur

An injury from using the computer is not as sudden as twisting your ankle or tripping on the sidewalk. These conditions form over long periods of time from repeating the same behaviors over and over again. They are what are known as Repetitive Strain Injuries.

RSIs are as they sound: damage to the body due to repetitive use or long periods in a fixed position. Have you heard of carpal tunnel? Tennis elbow? Those are two common forms of the many kinds of RSIs. Patients typically feel aching, tingling or pulsing pain in the afflicted area, as well as extremity weakness.
